Annual Father & Son Camping Expedition

Where: Long Point Park, 700 Long Point Road, South Melbourne/Sebastian On A-1-A… a mile and a half north of Sebastian inlet. Rangers Phone 321-952-4532. When:  Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 30, December 1, & 2  Directions:  I-95 north past the Vero Beach Exit to Exit 69 – Hwy 512. Take that east about 1 mile and then take a right onto Hwy 510 (Wabasso Road), you will go south for 1 mile and then it makes a turn to the east again and you will take that (Wabasso Road) across US 1 and across the intracoastal to A1A. Proceed North on A1A for about 10 miles, once you go over the Sebastian Inlet, Long Point Park is about 1.25 miles further and on the left. Once through the guard gate, keep to the right and look for the walk over bridge to Scout Island. Park near there and locate a wheel barrow and come on over

What to bring:

This will be primitive camping. We have secured Scout Island for the whole weekend. We have also secured the eating pavilion for our main Saturday night dinner. If you are able, bring a wheelbarrow or wagon (to carry you equipment to Scout Island), picnic/banquet type cover or tent, lantern, firewood and family radios. Other than those items, bring the usual camping accessories, flashlights batteries, coolers, ice, drinks chairs, book-of-jokes, scary stories, tent, Maybe a small table, fishing tackle, breakfast, lunch, snacks, beverages (lots of drinks) and anything else you can think of that would be fun. This is a great location for windsurfing or surfing too. The primary meal (Saturday night) is taken care of with the fee, all other meals should be brought and stored in your coolers. Tommy and Pete will donate custom Fishing Headquarters T-shirts for the kids again this year.

What about my boat:

This location will be a great place to bring your boat, dingy, windsurfer and surfboard. There is a boat ramp at the facility and you should be able to pull your boat practically right up to your tent. Fishing should be good for trout, redfish, flounder, pompano, bluefishand snook. Bring appropriate tackle and anchor lines. 

What's the cost?

Very little but does include the group camping fee we have to pay to the campground. Last four year's food items, grill rental, t-shirts, ice, treats for the kids, camping fees and miscellaneous items, etc. came out to about $30 a person/kid. This year the cost will be $30 per person/kid. Please, Tommy and Pete will have over 90 organizational hours into this and are happy to put this all together but are hoping everyone pre-pays to minimize out-of-pocket and confusion

at actual event.

Last year we had over 125 boys who camped with us. It is a blast for everyone and the boys insite on going again, year after year. You are welcome to invite other Fathers and Sons to join us, but space is limited. It is likely that all not fathers will show up for both nights, that's Ok.
